Domestic violence reports to police averaged 1,294 a day during this year’s Chuseok holiday, up 42.4 percent from the average daily level.
The provisional figure released Sunday compares with a daily average of 908.9 reports so far this year. It was also 13 percent higher than last Chuseok’s daily average of 1,145.3, according to the National Police Agency.
The holiday spike has recurred in recent years. Last year’s Chuseok average was about 44 percent above the daily average for 2025.
There were increases of nearly 62 percent in 2024 and about 48 percent in both 2022 and 2023.
Daily reports during Chuseok have also risen, from an average of 914 in 2021 to 1,294 this year — an increase of about 42 percent.
Last year’s seven-day holiday generated 8,017 reports, the highest total from 2021 through 2025. Because the length of the holiday varied by year, the daily averages offer a clearer comparison.
Police carried out an 11-day Chuseok security operation from Sept. 17 through Sunday.
Ahead of the holiday, they checked on victims of relationship-based crimes and shared information about those at high risk with officers responding to emergency calls.
